Bamburgh Beach

Budle Bay

Budle Bay is part of the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve. The sandy beach on the south side of Budle Bay is only accessible by foot. Even at low tide you should not attempt to cross the entrance to Budle Bay. All watersports are prohibited between October and April to protect the migratory bird population.

Watch thousands of waders and wintering wildfowl on the mudflats of Budle Bay’s tidal lagoon at low tide. Search for ruined jetties on the beach and an old lime kiln at Kiln Point, evidence of the bays industrial and military past.  In summer, enjoy watersports in the safetyof the shallow lagoon. Cycle along the bridleway to Bamburgh.

Seahouses North

Seahouses is a historic fishing village with a small harbour. The extensive sands stretching north are backed by sand dunes and offer a peaceful and often empty beach location

Boat and fishing trips are available from the harbour. Surfing is possible on Seahouses beach.

Seahouses South – Annstead

Rocks (some fossiliferous) at north end and elsewhere at low water. Abundance of rock pools. Crossed by fresh-water burn. Backed by sand dunes which have public access despite being a local nature reserve.

Beadnell, Northumberland

Part of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural beaty, this is a horseshoe shaped golden sandy beach backed by sand dunes. The adjacent Beadnell harbour is the only west-facing harbour on the east coast of England. It is an ideal place for watching the sunset.

Swimming, windsurfing, sea canoeing and sailing.

Wildlife & walks

During the summer months, the middle of the bay is home to hundreds of arctic terns as well as a few of the rare little terns, the site is wardened by the National Trust. Holy Island (Lindisfarne)

A tidal island in that access is by a paved causeway which is covered at high tide. Lindisfarne is famous for its medieval religious heritage and its picturesque 16th century castle.

Low Newton

The sandy beach is situated in a sheltered bay with rock pools and rocky outcrops. It is popular for water sports and with bird watchers.

There are coastal walks from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle and Beadnell. There is a cycle route through Newton Haven. It is a popular area with bird watchers as the Newton Pool Nature Reserve is nearby.

Craster

A beautiful Northumbrian village with a small harbour, some rocky coastline and a shingle foreshore.

Things to do

There are two piers and much of the rocky shoreline is suitable for fishing. There is a childrens playground and boat trips are possible.
